Gary Henson: Bio
Poet Maya Angelou, illustrated the deep intimacy that music has on the human heart when she wrote, "Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to the loneliness."
Perhaps it is that same bond between music and the deep recesses of the soul that has inspired Gary Henson to create such a strikingly original, and very personal, debut album.
At times, his hauntingly beautiful music intertwines with crystal clear images like sunlight dancing on the Pacific Ocean where he spent much of his youth. And yet, woven amid the sometimes dark poetry of his lyrics are refreshing and positive notes of joy and affirmation.
Gary's music has been described as "infectious" and "paying homage to classic Britpop ... pumping a fresh sound into the genre." However, his music is much more than a remix of the Beatles, Oasis, Blur, Radiohead or Coldplay. Here are songs without boundaries that appeal to a cross section of music fans of pop, classic rock, alternative and blues.
While his music has an aura of eclectic authenticity, it's not surprising that this California native brings together a melting pot of rhythms and experiences. Raised in L.A., Gary now lives in the shadow of the Sierras in Northern California.
Gary Henson's work breathes new life into a cynical music scene that's too often bought and sold by the corporate bottom line. His instruments include guitars, keyboards, vocals, and a rare sensibility as a wordsmith and musician. Music is everybody's possession. "It's only publishers who think that people own it", wrote John Lennon.
So it is with Gary Henson's music. Gary's music is here. Possess it.
